Paintings inspired by the film
The 2005 film, "Finding Neverland", about J.M. Barrie, the Scottish playwright who created "Peter Pan", inspired me to create artwork. My paintings and installations were inspired by the feelings from the film. "Finding Neverland" resonated with the part in me that is connected to our sense of curiosity, adventure, and enchantment that we still have from childhood.
This series of paintings, and installation art, were inspired from the 2005 film, "Finding Neverland". The paintings are done primarily in pastel, some oil, and the installation art is a lithographic transfer onto sheer cloth, and used as hangings.
My images are a combination of reality and imagination. There are no fairies or pirates to be found. My paintings are not consciously a recreation of images from the film, although some do have similarities. Many are places I have been or remember, or have imagined.
I plan on exhibiting this series as a one-woman show in the arts. My paintings are a result of the work of many different kinds of artists, most who may never meet. The artwork we, as artists do, can influence so many other people. My hope is to influence others, particularly children,, to become involved in the arts. In this day when the schools are cutting the arts out of their curriculum, each of us as artists need to work to "inspire" children, and adults to see the need for the arts in our society.
The 2nd one-woman exhibition of the Neverland Series will be held in Waynesboro, VA at the Shenandoah Art Center, December 2007
The Arts Council of the Valley has recently awarded Elaine an arts grant for her "Neverland Series".
